A tribute to the Baristas

This is a heartfelt tribute to my cappuccino guys at Caffe degli Innocenti on Via Faenza in Florence. My cappuccinos were always delicious and several times were presented with a beautiful heart drawn in the foam on top. Who doesn't want to wake up to that in the morning?

still walking thru bayamón

i have two new favorite store windows on my newer and improved walk to work in Bayamón.

one is just delightful and i look forward to seeing it on my way into work:

i love this smiling face, it just makes my morning. here is a little context for where he appears:

he is actually a fashion plate selling the latest styles. i love his whole outfit and think he is a great spokesperson for the store.

then, on the way out of Bayamón I always encounter a rather dark counterpart for the carefree young man in the window. Check out this disturbing window display:

i am not kidding. this is the actual window display for a pool hall:

isn't this too much? i mean really...

wigs

I've started walking down another street in Bayamón right along the plaza, perhaps a bit more cosmopolitan than my usual walk. The shops are a little bit tonier and the window displays more artful. This was my favorite one.

A few of the most captivating looks were:

glamorous dark shoulder length look for ladies

glamorous ultra long dark hair over the shoulder

things get a little more risky with this orange afro and turquoise shoulder length look

the wig shop goes into dangerous territory with the blue eyeshadow and yellow lips

a new take on the jan brady afro wig - it's not just for girls anymore!

and finally, if you're trying to keep a low profile, this jesus look should do the trick

gruas

Tow Trucks in PR have the greatest philophosophical menageries on them. Here is the first document in an on-going series.

I saw a GREAT red tow truck with Tun-Tun written all over it in thunderbolt yellow letters. Alas I was in a precarious traffic situation and this was the only shot I got. It looks like a mirage which, in a way, I suppose it was.

My goal is to someday reconnect with Papitín, a fellow who stopped to assist me when my car broke down on the side of the road about 3 years ago. His mantra/slogan: Papitín is Back Again. He said this to me several times during the time we spent together. Like when he saw that I was stressed out about the car he would say "Don't worry about it. Papitín is Back Again" even though we had never met before, so for me he had never left, and what is that supposed to mean anyways?

Here is his tripped out business card:

Not only is the word propietario written incorrectly, but he also instructs you to wait Espere

When I asked he explained that it used to be Papitín is Back, but then, after making it through some hard times he found it more appropriate to refer to himself and his truck and the whole thing as Papitín is Back Again. Of course he is also one of the tangiest looking people you could ever hope to meet. A scruffy tow trucker with a definite feyness to him with some s & m accessories to boot. I've seen his truck on the road again but never with my camera on hand. Somehow I know we will cross paths again.

walking thru Bayamón

so this is a little photo essay i did to document a very interesting intersection in Bayamón, Puerto Rico. one street is cramped, colorful, dirty, smelly, teeming with cheap shops and people and looks like a bomb went off because of the construction going on in the midst of everything.

the street that crosses it is crisp, monotone, modern and downright sophosticated comparatively.

this contrast intrigues me to no end. somehow, someone must be benefiting from the proximity of these streets to each other, but who? and how much? from a photographer's standpoint the cramped street is way more interesting, but i don't think it would be so compelling without the fancy street in the way.

anyways here are some of the people and visual moments i encountered on the cheap street.
